The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes consular power-of-attorney guidance explicitly for Egyptian citizens. It describes identity evidence and signing before the competent officer. Foreign nationals should not assume the same route applies: confirm execution, authentication and acceptance requirements for the issuing country and intended transaction.

Editorial update: 8 October 2026 · specialist legal review has not been approved for this edition.

Define the purpose and limits of the power of attorney

Identify the intended action, receiving authority, person who will use the document and actions you do not want authorised. Have the wording, language and limits reviewed before signing. An internet template should not be treated as suitable for every transaction or nationality.

Execution, authentication and acceptance are separate questions

Discuss execution, authentication associated with the issuing country, translation and receiving-authority requirements. The Egyptian MFA states that the principal must attend personally for authentication of foreign nationals’ powers of attorney. This is part of authentication guidance, not a complete route for every country. Confirm the relevant mission and intended purpose before arranging attendance.

Document delivery and follow-up on its use

Agree whether the original is required, who receives it, how receipt is recorded and how it will be returned. Ask how use within the task is documented and what must be reviewed if the purpose changes or you want to end authority. This checklist does not prescribe a revocation procedure for a particular case.

An organised discussion

  1. Define the task, current stage and important date.
  2. List available and missing records without sensitive details in the general message.
  3. Discuss scope, responsibility, outputs, fees and the document-sharing channel.
  4. Before proceeding, review the questions that have been resolved, those that remain open and any work requiring a separate engagement.

What affects timing and fees?

There is no single price for every matter. Factors to discuss here include: wording and scope, issuing country, translation and authentication, original delivery and agreed service.

Separate professional fees from authority charges, translation, delivery and expenses. Specify included work and any extra approval required. Timing depends on steps, documents and authority schedules; it is not a promise of an outcome or expedited decision.

Topic-specific questions

Does a lawyer’s review of the wording guarantee acceptance by the receiving authority?

No. Wording is reviewed for the intended purpose; execution, authentication and receiving-authority acceptance must still be confirmed separately.
